Now Available… Massage Therapy

Once a week, patients/residents in home hospice and our residence are invited to indulge themselves in massage treatments under the careful hands of a massage therapist. The type of massage received is fine-tuned to the needs of the patient/resident, and can range from the long, gliding strokes, and kneading techniques of Swedish, or full body massage, to polarity and energy balancing, to reflexology. Massage can be administered in a patient/resident's bed, or on a professional massage table, depending on the comfort level of the patient/resident. This service is also available to the caregiver.

Coming Soon… Music Therapy

Music therapy is the use of music as a therapeutic intervention. In our programming, we hope to often use this creative therapy to bring ease and comfort to our patients/residents. At any time, patients/residents will be able to select the sounds of nature, classical music, and old favorites to bring rhythm and rest into their rooms. Each room is equipped with a CD player that was donated by one family that was particularly touched by their experience with Avalon Hospice.

Aromatherapy

One service that continues to gain popularity is aromatherapy for the purpose of both relaxation and comfort. The use of oils for medicinal purposes and physical and psychological well-being dates back as far as Ancient Egypt and Renaissance Europe. Today, research demonstrates that our olfactory nerves, or sense of smell, are connected to the limbic center of our brain. This system regulates sensory motor activities and influences our behavior, emotions, and memories. In aromatherapy, essential oils help reduce stress and tension, while working to soothe emotions and clear minds.

Each of our rooms will be equipped with a diffuser that sends out the essence of essential oils requested by patients/residents or selected by their nurses. Jasmine is often a favorite for relaxation, while peppermint is said to ease nausea. Some scents may be a powerful tool as they bring back pleasant, peaceful memories for our patients/residents. Aromatherapy services are available at all times.
