Avalon Hospice in collaboration with Genesys Home & Hospice Care sponsors a grief camp for kids and their parents or guardians. Camp Brave Heart will be held August 8 – 10, 2008 at the YMCA’s Camp Copneconic in Fenton. The week-end overnight camp is an outreach program available to children who have sustained the loss of a loved one. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.

Attendees participate in specialized age-appropriate activities, intended to help them identify feelings, understand their reactions to grief, share with others who have experienced a loss similar to theirs, and learn to apply healthy strategies for coping.

Great thanks go out to the many volunteer counselors who assist with the many details of overseeing and working with the kids. Fun is available in abundance. Activities include swimming, canoeing, archery, horseback riding, archery, campfire activities, crafts and nature hikes. For physical challenges, an obstacle course and climbing tower are available.
