Pet therapy dogs, along with their “mom”, volunteer their time at Avalon Hospice. The two of them visit Avalon Hospice patients/residents every week, and are an integral part of the activity program. The dog arrives with treats for the patients/residents to feed him or her with and always brings smiles to everyone they meet.

Patients/Residents are encouraged to pet and love this special
visitor to their hearts' content. Pet therapy, which has been
said to lower blood pressure and add to a spirit of well being
in people of all ages, is yet another way that we seek to
bring comfort and joy to our patients/residents.

"We visited a lady who was very frail. Her family said she
hadn't smiled in such a long time since she'd gotten ill.
Nick put his feet up on the side of her bed and licked her
chin. She began to smile!"

Volunteer and Nick's Mom
