We have a volunteer base of approximately 100 individuals, as well as key relationships with organizations and groups within the community. Their contributions are priceless as they take on tasks ranging from assisting with direct care, to beautification in our gardens, to alternative therapies and patient/resident services.
Many of our volunteers come to us because their lives have been touched by an experience with hospice, and they feel compelled to give back to the community. Their experiences with the dying process allow them a special insight into the overall needs of our patients/residents and their families.
Our volunteers are well trained to work closely with our medical staff, and social workers in order to add even more to the level of care and comfort afforded our patients/residents.

"Their volunteer service is unbelievable. There's a lady that comes every Thursday to do my hair. It's hard for me to get used to getting things for free. They won't even take a tip from me! I also get a massage each week, and I can tell you, a full body massage sure feels good!" Lucille, Patient/Resident.

“My brother Larry was admitted to Avalon
Hospice in May 2005. As a volunteer at Avalon Hospice I was aware of the
excellent care given to patients, but from my perspective, the care given my
brother for 25 days was characteristic of what I witness week after week,
unending devotion to the needs of the patients. My brothers every need was
met. Care was taken to ensure he was made as comfortable as possible and our
family was made to feel at home during a most difficult time. The experience
of volunteering at Avalon Hospice allows me to express my humaneness,
assisting those in need and hopefully, making a positive difference for
those at the end of life.” John Hull, Volunteer
